제임스 딘 (1931-1955)

 

 

미국 인디애나 출신으로 그의 이름은 제임스 바이런 딘이다. 

그의 대표작은 자이언트, 에덴의 동쪽, 이유없는 반항이다. 

그가 시각장애인이었다는 것은 나중에 알려졌다.

Being a good actor isn't easy. Being a man is even harder. 

I want to be both before I'm done.

좋은 배우가 되는 것은 쉬운 일이 아니다. 인간이 되는 것은 더 어렵다.

나는 죽기 전에 두 가지 다 이루고 싶다.

To grasp the full significance of life is the actor's duty;

to interpret it his problem; and to express it his dedication. 

삶의 완전한 의미를 이해하는 것은 배우의 의무,

Being an actor is the loneliest thing in the world.

You are all alone with your concentration and imagination, and that is all you have.

To me, acting is the most logical way for people's neuroses to manifest themselves,

in this great need we all have to express ourselves.

When an actor plays a scene exactly the way a director orders, it isn't acting.

It's following instructions. Anyone with the physical qualifications can do that.

Studying cows, pigs and chickens can help an actor develop his character.

There are a lot of things I learned from animals. One was that they couldn't hiss or boo me.

An actor must interpret life, and in order to do so must be willing to accept all the experiences life has to offer.

In fact, he must seek out more of life than life puts at his feet.

사실 배우는 눈 앞의 인생에서 경험할 수 있는 것보다 더 많은 경험을 찾아야 한다.

But you can't show some far off idyllic conception of behavior if you want the kids to come and see the picture.

You've got to show what it's really like, and try to reach them on their own grounds. 

하지만 만약 아이들이 와서 영화를 보기를 바란다면 어떤 현실과 동떨어진 이상적인 행동 개념을 보여줄 수는 없다.

실제와 비슷한 것을 보여주고 그것을 근거로 아이들에게 다가가야 한다.

I think the one thing this picture shows

that's new is the psychological disproportion of the kids' demands on the parents.

Parents are often at fault, but the kids have some work to do, too. 

이 영화가 새롭게 보여주는 한 가지는

부모에 대한 아이들 요구 사항들의 심리적 불균형이다.

대부분 부모에게 잘못이 있지만 아이들도 일부 해야 할 일이 있다.
